In my opinion, nowadays, the thing in the grocery store people like to call bread, it's not bread. It's a s**t. But people continue to buy it. I remember when I was a kid and my parents sent me to the bakery to buy fresh warm bread and used to eat a quarter from on my way home. Sounds familiar? I bet you did so too. IT WAS DELICIOUS! And, also, you had to eat it within 2-3 days, cause it wouldn't last.


Bread before and now

Now, it lasts for a week and it tastes like aspirin.
That is why I am showing you this super easy universal whole wheat dough. You can use it to make anything that involves bread. You can use it for pizza, for crescents, for pies, for croutons etc.
This one, I used it to make pizza pie; I will show you in a different post. Let's cut to the chase! (FYI - The cook time is for the bread recipe)

45 minutes

Yield:

Nutrition facts:

  • 1970 calories
  • 66 grams of protein
  • 7 grams of saturated fat
  • 35 grams of unsaturated fat
  • 12 grams of sugars
  • 55 grams of fibre

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 package of dry or fresh yeast
  • 1-2 cups of warm water

Instructions:

Put into a small bowl the yeast, sugar and a little bit of warm hot water and mix gently.

Mix gently until it's well combined.

Let it stay for 5 minutes somewhere warm so that you test the dough. If it gets foamy, then it is good to go.

Put the flour and salt in the food processor.

Pour the mixture over.

Add a cup of warm-hot water. It would be wise to add just a small cup and to add more after processing if it is necessary. It's not an exact science, you know?

Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Process! From time to time turn of the processor and have a look at the dough. If it is necessary add more water or flour or an extra tablespoon of olive oil. You can add even hot milk instead of water to be more soft.

Ta daaa! Pizza dough! Or bread dough! Whatever...! This is how it should look like.

Let it stay in the processor for about an hour to double its size. Put it somewhere warm!

Put some flour wherever you want to "beat" the dough.

Put some flour over the dough to unbind it easily from the container.

Now, the fun part! KNEADING! Knead the dough very well and form a ball-looking thing. The dough should be elastic and soft...
